Carrabelle fishing, Sat. 2/28
Friend/boss asked earlier in the week to go do some fishing on Saturday. Watched the weather all week, kinda looked promising till Thursday, 4-6 nearshore, 6-8 offshore for Sat. We talked on Fri, he stated he was still going down to his place anyways and I was welcome whether we fished or not. Said we can watch the weather and if there is a chance Sat. am we will go. Haven't been in month n half so it didn't take much convincing. He went down early Fri. had his boat put in the water sitting on ready. Got there bout 7 Fri evening and he had been keeping a close eye on the weather (weatherunderground.com- is neat, if you haven't been there) decided it was ONLY gonna be 3-5's so we made plans. When you are gonna be in a 33' GW you can make plans for 3-5's. Talked to Pren @ Hometown BP and he gave us permission to check his pinfish traps on the way out. Next morning ready to go and realized we didn't have a key to get in the cabin of the boat where the engine keys were. Waited till 7:30 so he could go by GW to borrow a key and we were on our way. Got proabably 3-4 doz pinfish , squid and headed to the K-Tower hunting so notorious REEF DONKEYS. Got there and anchored on the fish. 1st bait down and all of a sudden I hear a big grunt behind me, Donkey on, but it wasn't a donkey it was a Clydesdale. He couldn't get him off the bottom, finally hung him up and took his stuff with him. Got mine down finally on the bottom back up 6-8 turns and it was FISH ON. Got him to the top, too short 28" but a hellava pull. Baits back down, FISH ON again, this time I was suprise , a 24" Redfish, down again another redfish 26". Partner got 2 or 3 groupers which was released. No more AJ, so we went over to Bryson reef hunting more donkeys. Bouy out, took turns drifting in the wind with one operating the boat and the other fishing. I'm up 1st, bait down FISH ON, 26". Bait down again , FISH ON, 27". Partners time. Bait down FISH ON(how does he always get the Clydesdales). After a hellava fight and chase around the back of the boat and a little help from yours truly finally a 32" donkey in the boat . What a blast ! Rough all day but a fun day with good company! Tally for the day 2 redfish and 1 good AJ.
Sorry no pictures ! Let camera at home.
Pren thanks for the pinfish.
Enjoy !! Daryl.

I thought keeping a Red at the K tower was a no-no. Did the law change?

No it didn't. Still illegal to possess a redfish in federal waters.Knot Tester wrote:I thought keeping a Red at the K tower was a no-no. Did the law change?
