Keaton on the Tin Can

Post by tin can »

Chalk came over Thursday in time to make it to the meeting. He took a lot of notes, listening to Capt. Pat McGriff. During the ride to Keaton Friday morning, referring to the notes, we developed a plan.We got to our first spot and started chunking. Fish slow. 5 casts and change colors. Moved to spot 2. Fish slow. 5 casts and change colors.Tried several of our standby spots with no joy. Bumped into BB and CT. At that time they didn't have much either (or they lied to us  ). Ran into Keels, Jackson and Sonny. Same story. After some discussion we decided to go some place different. Finally found 1 spot holding fish.

Headed out Saturday morning knowing our 1 spot had no water on it. Went to another standby spot and managed a couple of keepers. Started working our way to our 1 productive spot. 5 casts, change colors. We managed a limit of decent fish, 11 pounds, but couldn't find a kicker fish.

Sticking to our game plan put us in the top 10 for the tournament, but I don't think I can afford to fish this strategy on a regular basis. When I cleaned the boat I picked up a 5 gallon bucket full of plastic. $250 worth of baits is more than I can afford.

Enjoyed it, partner. It's always an adventure. Can't wait to do it again.

Sounds like everybody caught a good mess of fish for a March tourney. Good deal.

Nice day  Glad you two survived another one together. Even looks like the Keaton luck turned around a little for you.
