Econfina/St Marks...

Post by Redfin »

Tried to put in at Econfina 2 hours after low tide, but when we go tthere it was LOWWWWW.... way too low for the Filet & Release bay boat...

Highlight of the day was the boat ramp, some guy dropped his trailer off the end, and his buddy got tired of everyone watching so he barreled off into the frigid water, Levis and Long Sleee shirt, up to his chest, to left the trailer up, even though a guy in a bass boat was right there, 3 feet away, lookin like he didnt know what was goin on or what to do... and could have easily reached out and picked it up for these guys... it was a small, 16 foot trailer...

Oh well off to St Marks... bought myself a yearly pass to the lighthouse ramp ($15) and we made out way out.. we threw spoons, spooks, skitterwalks, gulps, real gulps (shrimp), grubs.. and about anything else you can imagine...
Could not catch a fish.. we did get a few rays and 1 undersized trout.. pitiful day for us - but we did explore new areas and found some spots that should produce once the water warms up..

not much of a report, but hopefully you enjoyed the ramp story (unless its you) :o

St marks..a little less rocky...far less than Econfina...a great tip..east of the lighthouse be careful...rock garden and areas around stoney bayou can be a little Dicey..Ask around, the folks on this site can help you with the worst areas...Good Luck in your exploring!

i was wanting to hit Econfina Sunday (i miss it), we fished out of the Econfian for 5 years exclusively when i had my flats boat, and its been St Marks for the past year, with the bay boat, but mostly, off shore from there...
we dd se the big ole rock.. not sure which one.. GPS said Aucilla was 6.6 miles from it... woulda hate to not see that and have to swim to shore...
