Got down to the ramp around 10AM - later than usual. FIshing with a good friend of mine. Headed out of the river mouth to the East and set up our first drift offshore of the West end of HM. We line up a few drifts in clear, shallow water near rocks and pick up four decent trout (17, 18, 18 and 19). The bite slows down there and there wasn't enough water to get in towards the grass line so we went exploing over in the Rock Islands area. Found a nice bar and we picked up two reds 24 and 20. Also bag another 17 inch trout. We went over to rock point and got nothing so we decided to head back deepe and West. Stopped at an offshore bar and caught a bluefish on the first cast. Big shark followed him to the boat. There was a school of HUGE mullet sitting on top of the bar. We couldn't do anything else at the bar so we blasted back towards where we started. Went further in this time towards the grass line with the tide and picked up another 17 inch trout. Wrapped up the day working the grass line there with 3 more 16 inch trout and a rat red.
Ty Smith-ed Gulps were the ticket but the big red hit a sprite spoon. Redfish weren't hitting like normal we had a few follow spoons up to the boat and peel off. My buddy thought the 24 incher was the bottom until he finally took off. Water temp was 68, 69, 70 all day.
My buddy SCHOOLED me the last time he fished on my boat so this time I returned the favor. He caught one trout (but he had the only decent red). By the end of the day he was laying down in the boat taking a nap saying his back hurt. Good times were had by the both of us with a couple cold ones, lots of sunshine and minimal wind. Numerous X-rated jokes were told along with R-rated stories and world views on boats, trucks, fishing spots, women, beer, hunting and football. Nothing left on the bottom, nothing broken. Just a shade under 30 miles on the GPS.
