Late Report - Dekle 3/9

Post by PerryFisherMan »

Here's a late report from Monday. Short story = did not do well.

As we neared the coast, we saw what we thought was smoke over the water. When we got to the ramp, we realized it was fog. This is about 12:00 in the day. The fog started right at the water's edge and made the air temperature chilly. We moved around to favorite spots (in the fog) but didn't have any bites. A few boats came pretty close to us because you couldn't see too far, but there was never any real chance of us hitting each other, but it made one nerveous when you could hear a boat planeing out and headed your way. Finally, at high tide (2:00) the fog started to evaporate and the air temperature started to rise. Soon after that, my son managed to hook a 17.5" redfish. That was the only fish we caught.

The water was extremely clear, and the temp was in the sixties. I think the fish have left the creeks, but are not biting because of the water temp. My son and I have spoke with several people who have fished from last Saturday to yesterday (Wednesday) and have had the same results. I'm sure someone is catching them, but not the people I've spoken to. Maybe the water temp will rise soon.

BTW, I was at Destin yesterday and saw the same fog phenomenon, but it started at about 2:00 in the afternoon.

I have a rule that I try real hard to go by-never go fishing if it's foggy. If the fog clears on the drive down, that's ok. But if you put in and the fog doesn't go away, the fish won't bite. Not good, anyway. Sorry yall didn't find much, but I bet your son enjoyed catching the red. It'll get better.

I hate the fog, its just plain scary. However, the most trout I've ever caught in that area, I caught in the fog. Pulled out of Keaton canal and could not see from one marker to the next. Putted out three markers, turned right and drifted to the beach. Every cast was a nice trout with two more jealous one following behind. I ain't gonna say how many we landed, but we brought 2 48 quart coolers of fillets back after 2 half days of fishing. Been years ago, but those days are burned in my brain.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
