Spanish Mackerel Big Bend?

Post by lordsfisher »

I'm interested in taking my kids to do some catching of Spanish. We used to make the trip to Panama City where they stack up and make for some constant action. It'd be better for the kids if we fished closer to home. Do the Spanish congregate in large numbers anywhere consistently in the Big Bend? I only have a 13' boston whaler so I don't get too far from shore. Thanks in advance.

What he said. Just the far side of either of the spoil islands, just past the birdrack in the summertime. I see 'em there all the time.

That's about right. Word is there are already a few around early this year.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

They shouldn't be too far off.

Thanks much. In Panama City, they have arrived in numbers between March 25 and mostly slowed down by April 12, from my experience. The arrival en mass changes with cold fronts etc. I think they move further off-shore when it's cold.
