St. Andrew Bay 3-20-09

Post by FlatCrazy »

Took my brother fishing today as he was here for a few days visiting. Thought we would be able to find some fish this morning, but the fish gods were not smiling on us today.

Launched the boat at daylight. Wind was blowing fairly brisk out of the NE. Water in the bay was a little low due to combination of low tide and the N wind.

Fished everywhere I thought we might find fish. Fished the flats, bayous, sloughs and cuts. No fish. Could not even find a redfish in my 100% money back guaranteed redfish hole. Nothing. Found one school of mullet back in a slough that must have had a hundred fish in it, but could not find a trout or red with them. Tried various topwater, suspending, soft jerk baits, grubs and spinners. Heck, I would have probably used some G_LP! if I had some! Weird thing is that we fished some of the same stuff I fished last weekend and had good success. Water temp was same as last weekend 68-69.

I noticed the pinfish were on the flats in really shallow water when the sun came up. Poled around looking for some reds in with them, but found nothing but some rays. Did not see any pinfish in the deeper flats. FYI, I did not notice any marine life on the flats in water deeper than 4'.

Anyway, nothing else to report. Boat ran good. Hope you guys have better luck than we did.

I'm sorry you didn't have a better trip. Hey, quality time right?! If you go again, I'd take him to catch some Spanish in the pass if they are in now. I always love the non-stop action.
