Kept up with the weather all day Friday and Friday night and decided I might get a early morning turkey hunt in before the rain came and settled in. Woke up at
5:15 and it was threating to rain decided what the heck.
6:00 picked up my hunting partner now drizzling rain, Well we struck out to Worth County by now it was raining pretty good.
6:50 got to the hunting land and sat in the truck for about 15 min ,the rain slacked off a little.
7:15 we go set up on a turkey that was roosted last night.
7:30 the rain stopped and we heard two fly down, Hit the call , no gobble, no yelp no NOTHING!!! hit it again and NOTHING!!!!.
8:30 We decided to check the other side of the field we were sitting on and saw two birds 90 yards off strutting circles in the center of the field. set up and called to em and NOTHING!!!!!!!
9:00 the two headed off to the woods after strutting for us for 30 min. Saw a jake about 150 yards all by himself that must have been watching from afar.Knowing the the rain was coming we decided to call to him and he could not resist as soon as the two bigger birds left he started to come in slowley but steady. He took his time trying to figure out what was going on he kept looking in our direction which was bad for us because we had left the decoys on the other side of the field.
9:30 He came in a little more then started to bolt and my hunting partner blasted a 65 yard shot and dropped the bird.I have killed bigger birds but this one was the most challenging to date.Got wet got fustrated but stuck it out and got one .We did not hear the first yelp, gobble or anything all morning.
9:45 Just as we finished getting the decoys up and got in the truck the bottom fell out and fell out hard so all worked out for the good.

Watch out for the one who brings a spoon to a knife fight..he is either really stupid or really good with a spoon. <')))><
