Middle Suwannee River Fishing
Taking the skiff over to the Suwannee around Mayo to do some camping on the new WIlderness Trail screened platforms this weekend. Ive read some things online saying that this is the time of year for fishing on the river. Ive never fished it and wondered if any of yall have an experience. I figure all this rain is really going to raise the river level and change the fishing some. I hope my camping spots arent flooded out. Anyway I was going to take my 4wt and light spinning rod to try to catch some red bellys and suwannee bass.
Thanks for any suggestions

It looks like it's not up that bad. Take a look at this link for the water levels.

The water level will be rising quickly, so be very careful. All of the feeder rivers are at flood stage. When the old Suwanee gets moving, she really moves.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
Re: Middle Suwannee River Fishing
Ive been watching the water levels on that site but am afraid that by Friday afternoon that all that water will catch up with the river and really get to moving. Hopefully most of this water will just go down into the water table and not into the river

I'm new to this forum, but for what it is worth, the Suwannee River will be rising and somewhat muddy with all this rain. Fishing will not be at its best. I use to live down there in Cross City and fished the river a lot. Wait till some of the water goes down and you can go to the river with confidence. I fish near the Yellow Jacket area. There is a nice campground with lots of facilities there and good fishing. They have a website. - Daybreak

Hey Jon Boat! Talked to my brother today on his way home from the Suwannee. Lots of water, no fish.

Just got this e-mail at work...
[FSU Emergency EPG] Suwannee River may close all bridges includingI-10
________________________________________
Be advised… near-record level flooding on the Suwannee River may result in the closure of bridges on I-10, US-90, US-27, as well as other local bridges along the Suwannee, Withlacoochee, and Alapaha rivers, as soon as Wednesday.
Should this occur, there will be no ability to travel east or west bound without taking a lengthy detour up through Georgia. Bridges may remain closed for several days due to flooding and would require inspection and potential repairs prior to re-opening.
Please plan accordingly if you have any plans to travel East of the Suwannee during the next week or two.
I will do my best to maintain current closure and detour links for major roadways on alerts.fsu.edu as they occur.
