MANY thanks, TroutTrent! That's an explanation I can GREATLY appreciate... though, admittedly doesn't hurt I worked for a bearing cage manufacturer in my past life  In all seriousness, your explanation is great and makes perfect sense.

Many thanks again, as I now feel much more comfortable in the idea of investing in a stradic (at least until Littoral chimes in to say that the symetre's are the wiser cost option :-D )

I have two 4000's. never a problem with them malfunctioning and I've used them quite a bit for probably three seasons. Only thing, they're louder and rougher than two shimano spheros 4000s' I have. I use the spheros' a lot more. much quieter and smoother reel plus 50 bucks less expensive.

Yeah, my Stratic lost its antireverse. Jeff Rivers fixed it for me, and it has been fine ever since.

Personally, I own three Shimarno Symtre reels and haven't had a problem with them. Mook used Stradics and Stradic MFG's but I still catch the same fish without problem. I'm really not sure why someone would want a 180 reel over a 70 dollars reel if they both catch the same fish. Same thing with rods. My Falcon rods were 101 USD each and they still catch all the same fish without problem. I mean I seriously dought I'll be able to fish better with a 250 dollar rod.

You'd be amazed at how a rod designed for that reel and the techniques you use and even arm length would affect your "fishability".

Reel Cowboy, you would be amazed how a custom rod can affect you fishing too. If you are interested, call me. I know a guy.
