4/11 Reds & The Battle On The Bay 4/18

Post by BayGator »

Fished last weekend with some buddies from out of town and got them on some decent reds, but for the most part is was pretty slow.

Two good reds for Wayne and Adam

Fished the St. Joe tourney today and started out at 2pm in search of some reds. We found them on the 5th cast, but they were tipping the scales at 30", 29", 29", 28.5". We were not complaining about the fish, but we needed some slot reds and finally got a 24" and 26" to take to the scales. My 26" weighed in at 6.8lbs good enough for 4th place. It was a lot of fun, can't wait to go again!

Nice job BG!

I launched briefly Saturday and Sunday, but I took a pretty good whoopin' by the waves and wind each day. I did run into a school of the over-slot reds on Sunday (probably 30-40 of them), but only managed one before I had drifted through the middle of the school and they scattered. I never did make it to my favorite trout waters. Hopefully the wind settles a bit by May.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

The trout fishing in the bay has left most people scratching their heads so far. I guess with all the fresh water invading the bay from all sides, the trout have yet to show up in any kind of numbers in all the usual spots so far. I hope it gets better before the tournament gets here or there won't be much to see at the weigh in. Out of 30 boats in the tournament last weekend, there were only a handful that weighed trout with the winner having a 4.4lb'er to win. The next biggest was a 2.5 and it went downhill from there with a lot of the fish in the 1lb range. They are hung up somewhere and I have not found them yet, but there will be some more trips soon I promise!!! :-D :-D
