Fished a pick up tournament Saturday with Dan. Got loaded up and hit Ferrell's in Cadiz for breakfast at 4:45. Got to Devil's Elbow landing and signed in. There were three tournaments going out of that same ramp so it was backed way up. We got in early, secured a good parking space and waited for take off. I took the only picture of the day right before take off. Beautiful start to the day.
6:00 straight up and blast off. 0 to 80 pretty quick and we were fishing at our first spot in about 3 minutes. We spent most of the day flippin and pitchin bushes. We had two decent fish in the boat in the first 30 minutes. Both of them came pitching to trees just off the bank. Thought we were going to have a good day. Then the clouds rolled in, the sun went away and we couldn't buy a keeper for the rest of the day. We fished hard and covered a lot of water. Broke a rod, my glasses and lost a couple of crank baits. The live well aerator wouldn't stay primed and my lighting harness bit the dust on my truck. Only on Tournament day right?
We wound up the day with two fish in the live well for 6.5 lbs and 5th in the tournament. The winning bag was right at 15lbs. It was a tough day for most though. I learned a lot and know what I need to practice up on now. I'll be switching from Power Pro to P-line and setting up some targets in the back yard for flippin and pitchin. Thinking about putting a tree branch in the back to practice with. Think my wife and neighbors would mind? Loved the Carrot Stick with the Curado. Threw it most of the day and loved it. It's so light that I wasn't sore at all at the end of the day from casting.

I need something in 12lb test. I have been using the 10lb PP but I have problems with it breaking off about every 50 casts about 5 inches above the lure. I really think it has more to do with my casting than the line itself. It also takes longer to retie when I have to than the mono. I like the sensitivity of the braid, but need to switch to something I'm confident in. I don't like the thought of "is the line going to break this time?" on tournament day. I just want to be able to concentrate on what's going on outside the boat.
I know what you mean about powerpro. I just got a new med quality reel (shimano citra) and spooled up with 8 lb power pro. That line is so slippery that i have to wrap it like 20 times to get knots albright knot to hold. It snaps like you said, and i get weird backlash about 30 feet into my cast lots of time. I think i'm going to respool with mono to see if it's line, reel or user. ha ha.
