That's just not right!
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
Re: Pin Fish Trap at Econfina
you know i have a problem thinking that all guys that out their fishing like we do are typically all "good ol boys",, but you know thats really just not the case. i cant imagine not having respect for other peoples hard earned property. its really just a damn shame the way some folks are.

Me too Flanders, you'd think that guys that like to fish would just be better than that. It is dissapointing. They'll get theirs eventually.Flanders wrote:you know i have a problem thinking that all guys that out their fishing like we do are typically all "good ol boys",, but you know thats really just not the case.

It really is upsetting to hear/see such things happening. We had a prob w/ this back in MS and we set up kind of a "neighborhood watch" ordeal on the waters. we tagged all of the traps w/ info on them, met area fishers day in and day out, exchanged info and waypoints of locals, and if anyone saw anything they weren't sure of, they called that person up on the chart we all kept in the boats w/ us.

You would be shocked at the folks who do not have a clue what it even is. They will come up on it and say "Look what I found, a trap somebody lost. Well I guess since it was lost, I might as well take it with me."
Then there are just lowlifes who flat out steal them.

The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.
Re: Pin Fish Trap at Econfina
I got a trap from AMS in Crawfordville and it seemed really light in weight. I thought, "Wouldn't windy conditions and/or a stong tide move this thing?" So I put a little chunck of concrete in mine. Seems to keep it still. Rebar is probably better to use but I have been too lazy to go find it.
Sorry your trap is gone, I would hate to think someone took it.

I put one too near the channel out of Keaton and left a little too much rope. Not sure but it was real nice and fortunately it be longed to my friend.

Pops have you thought about time releases for your bouy?
Check out

It might be more trouble than its worth but it sounds like you might be interested in something like this.
There are several suppliers on the web.
They decay faster in warm water so you have to judge which one is right for you.
There is a little math involved to compensate for temperature but it does not look too difficult.

Put a lionfish in it, then you can read in the newspaper about the person who messed with it.

Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
