April fishing SJB, etc

Post by sanblaslayer »

Most of my trips this April have been plagued with high winds, clouds, and boat trouble but I still managed to catch a few fish. Crazy story: Saturday the 25th Kmamatey, my dad, and I were fishing the beach looking for some pomps. About the time we were going to call it quits I looked behind the boat and saw a huge fish swimming slowly across the sand in around 5 feet of water. Immediately thought tarpon! Whipped the boat around and approached. Kyle through a topwater at the beast to no avail. I grabbed a rod rigged w/ a cobia jig and slung it at his face. Chased the jig and ate 10 feet off the bow. Kingfish, monster. Peeled drag for 15 or so seconds then peaced out. Not familiar with kingfish and their weights, but I am guessing this thing was probably between 50 and 80 lbs? It was definately huge because we mistook it for a 100+ lb poon. Crazy stuff. Anyways, here are a few picks from PSJ and Kmamatey's undisclosed location.
