St. Joe 5/2

Post by sanblaslayer »

Should have been scouting, messed around with the fly rod the whole time. In fact, thats all I used. Caught quite a few trout early and a small red on a green gurguler from the swap before the sun got high (thanks for the fly, fish love it). Later, I found some small pods of reds including fish of all sizes. 16" fish swimming with 30" fish. Crazy. Couldn't get them to eat. Tried the purple toad, chartreuse, and white. Then switched to an olive whisper crab RS gave me. Started getting reactions, including follows all the way to the bow. Finally launched one at a fish riding high, lit up at 50 feet. Ate as soon as I gave one twitch. 25"
Thanks to everyone on this site who has inspired me to sling flies. Its as good as it gets.
