Grouper Status...?
Some very current information on fish populations:
One principal finding:
…nations with more people have reefs with far fewer large fish because as the number of people increases, so does demand for seafood.
Press Release (May 6):

Published (peer reviewed!) Paper:

Tha actual paper:
http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Ad ... ne.0005333
If the NMS would just do some REAL research on recreational vs commercial to see who the real culprit is.
"nations with more people have reefs with far fewer large fish because as the number of people increases, so does demand for seafood" - Duh, and how much do these studies cost us for an answer like that?

Duh?
Lot's of people have difficulty accepting any correlation between population and environmental issues.
The science of actually measuring the correlation in the case of fish populations had not been done before.
It is a VERY difficult thing to do.
Since you seem to agree with the primary finding (duh) then what about the obvious policy implications: (?)
(from the press release)
Stallings warned. He said meeting such demands while retaining healthy coral reefs may require multiple strategies, including implementation of marine reserves, finding alternative sources of protein, and increased efforts to implement family-planning strategies in densely populated areas.

Re: Grouper Status...?
The "family planning strategies" should be implemented on the low life humans that are beginning to overpopulate our great country.
I am all for sterilzation of those that are too lazy to work, but have plenty of energy to make whoopie and babies they will not take care of.
Let me clear up my stance on fish also. I have no problem with a 2 grouper per person limit. If my wife and I go out and bring back 4 20 lb grouper, that is plenty for the freezer. Where I have an issue is the commercial boys can catch many, many more fish, yet they want to attack rec fishermen. It all goes with the money. This country is so corrupt in government, it is ludicrous.

AAHHH YES... Statistics....
While completing my degree at UCF, the instructor for Stat 301 gave us a project where we were able to predict the gross national product for the year based on the winning speed at the Indianapolis 500. This was to demonstrate that you can "goose" the data to produce any result you'd like to have and have it seem reasonable.

Re: Grouper Status...?
So let's increase the number of coral reefs and reduce the population.
