Mothers day at Keaton.

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

:-D You know you have a good wife when she says,"lets go fishing tomorrow"(on mothers day) :smt007 We start to leave the house and dang almost forgot the cooler/seat. Close call got it in the boat and out the drive we go. She says "got the GPS?" yes "got the plug in?" yes "got the boat tied down?" yes "got the boat key?".......................Uh....not sure. Stop the truck and do a quick search and back to the house we go. Pull out of the canal a little before 8:00 and head north. My wife and boy proceed to put on a fishing clinic (shorts) while I try to catch bait or a fish to no avail. I let my boy try his hand at the bait poleand he gets a pigfish. I put him out and 10 seconds later a fat 17" is in the box. It was quite a dry spell after that.it was a little rougher than NOAA said but not whitecapping. Water temp was 78 and pretty clear. Itried to hail members to no avail. Then tried to get a radio check from Keaton marina and got one from Ecofina 10 miles away. We throw everything in the tackle box. It wasn't till i tried a 4" newpenny gulp, then BAM a good solid fish. Fight him to the boat where my boy does a great job netting the fish, a 23" 4 pound trout is in the box. Hot dang :-D I was still riding that high when I reached to pick up my favorite(and most expensive) pole and ......SNAP! Dang it :smt011 It was under the tie off cleat! Snapped in the middle.(it it salvageable?) We put 4 more in the box before annother big trout hits. He has a little more fight in him and the line breaks at the cork.......ARRGG. Try to get the sock in and give chase but it is gone. So if anyone caught a 20"+ trout with a yellow rattling cork attached, please return it and the fish. :-D Had a great day on the water with my family. :smt007
