alright Mathew--PSJ tourney

Post by SHOWBOAT »

Katie, Boo and I arrived early Friday morning and unloaded at the Cape. Katie is finishing up her PHD this fall so she had to stay at the town-house and dissertate. Boo and I headed for the water. We pre-fished from 9:00 to about 5:00. Ran into BG and BB while running around, and BB Too had some nice fish on board. I found a couple overslot reds on topwater, but I don't think I boated a keeper trout all day. Found a few that were close to 15, but I didn't bother pulling out a measuring stick. Dropped the boat off at the house, picked up Katie and the three of us headed to the fish fry where good time was had by all.

Woke up early the next morning, checked in with Casey and headed to Presnells. Had some early topwater strikes fishing a ledge and finally hooked into a nice red about 7:30. On the third run she straightened out two hooks on my Spit'n Image. :smt010 We left shortly thereafter and jumped from hole to hole searching for a nice trout in shallow water; no dice. Finally ran out to a deeper flat surounded by deeper water and started thowing corks and jerkers in an attempt to put a keeper fish in the boat. We put a limit of schoolies in the boat in less than a half hour.

It was in that location that the interesting part of the day unfolded. After netting a fish Katie stepped off the front deck right onto the rod holder and stuck a Skitterwalk in her foot. I cut her free from the rod and told her to lay down on the back deck. Two options seemed reasonable (1) a slow ride in and trip to the clinic or (2) take a shot at removing. It was pretty deep with one hook embedded to where it meets the other two. Katie, being tough, opted for the second option. I put my left forearm behind her ankle, put a set of pliers on the hook, counted to 1, pushed down and pulled. The fear of my arm getting stopped half-out created enough juice in me that the attempt was succesful. Another bent hook (this time a 4x Gamakatsu), some ice and we're back in business. Way to tough it out Katie. :smt035 We spent the rest of the day looking for a kicker trout. I managed to upgrade three of fish with skitterwalk catches, but still nothing over 20.

Having put 2 good days on the boat, we headed back to Tally. The new steering assembly installed by Parkway worked great, but I was frustrated that I didn't have the range to get to some my holes past EH late in the day and decided an upgrade is inorder. Sold the boat earlier this week, and I hope it treats its new owner well.

I don't know if we'll make the next tourney since we're in a bit of a transition phase, but we'll be back with a new ride shortly.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

Nice. You should try that loop trick. I have done it before. Easier than the pliars.

Keep us informed about the upgrade process. Sounds like fun.

I knew where you could get a slightly used Triton a few weeks ago on the cheap.

Just trying to take advantage of some available talent. Plus Katie's much prettier of a fishing patner than CT. Hell for that fact, Boo is too! :-D

Thanks for the offer Jay. Hopefully I'll be putting an end to the transition phase tomorrow; then it's time to play "pimp MY ride."

If it doesn't work out for some reason tomorrow, then I'd love to spend a tourney day aboard BB.

BB maybe you should have used Parkway Marine like showboat did for his steering and then you might have saved some bucks

Sorry to hear about Katie stepping on that hook. I carry Litocaine just for such occasion.
