I bet Nathan thinks Florida deserves our Georgia water...for free!
I've lived in Georgia for most of my years and the only boat I've ever had stolen was is Florida!
Actually no I don't. I think areas should depend on their own water supply. If an area doesn't have enough fresh water to sustain the resident population then something needs to be done to fix the problem. Piping in water from another area doesn't fix the problem, it just puts a band aid over a quickly spreading wound. They did it years ago in my part of the State. Over in Okaloosa County they built a massive pipeline system to pump water from the North end of the County to the South end (Destin and Ft. Walton). The way I look at it the coastal areas have a massive supply of water right out their back doors, it's just more expensive to do. Desalination plants are going to be needed eventually. Before long the coastal areas will have to pump purified water away from the coast to replace the water they stole to begin with.
On the other point, statistics don't lie. Georgia led the nation in boat thefts in 2007. Don't believe me, look it up yourself.
Actually Nathan, Georgia's registration system is now no different than a title system. Far more is required to transfer a boat in Georgia for the last couple of years due to the Homeland Security regulations. As of January 1, it became virtually identical to a title system.
I would imagine Georgia boats are targeted far more for theft by Florida boys who don't know how to take care of their boats.
A bit of advice if you register the boat in GA. Do not... Let me say that again.. DO NOT mail your paperwork to DNR. Either scan and email or fax your bill of sale and cert of origin to the listed number on the DNR registration site. Mine went pretty fast once I determined their mail goes into a black hole. You'll receive the same old reg. card and decal you've always received it just cost more now for processing.
