I'm still a tad new to the area. I'm tryin to plan a campin trip and going to take the boat. Do ya'll know of any good campgrounds with a boat ramp? Preferably where the flats fishin is good. If I don't catch it, I ain't gonna have nothin to eat and my boat ain't gonna handle the big water. I've been to St. Joe Peninsula St Park, I loved it just lookin for somewhere new to try. Saw St Andrews but didn't know about the flats there. Thanks in advance for your help. .( Oh and I don't need any hookups, sleepin in the tent) Distance is not really an issue either. I'd go to Islamorada if I knew where I could sleep

I can give you two I have stayed at.

Econfina RV Resort at the Econfina river landing. Only 1 mile to open water after launch. Be careful of rocks at low tide.

American Outdoors RV Park, Key Largo, Fl. Boat launch in campground at store. Slip rental. Access to many square miles of flats in the keys.

Dubble looks like that one down in Key Largo is closed. It looked pretty nice too. Anyone have a favorite they've been to?

From what I've seen in the keys, it looks like you can just drive your boat up to most any small Mangrove and get out and camp. Saw many camps within eyesight of the highway going down.

Nice one in Panacea right by the bridge. I think it is Holiday Campground, right on Ocklocnee Bay and across the street from Angelo's restaurant. Boat ramp across the bridge.

Nice one (KOA) on Alligator Point.

Nice one on 98 on the banks of St. Marks River. Best to launch at Fort though. Look up Franklin County parks.

One on the water at Lanark and one across from the water at Carabelle Beach.

Indian Pass campground on Indian Pass.

Those are the ones that I know of other than the ones already mentioned.

If I were to be going, I think I would go to Econfina or Lanark this time of the year.

The KOA on AP is long gone......I sure wish it was still there though! We are camping at the http://www.carrabellepalmsrvpark.com/ this weekend for the BASH! No boat ramp but one back across the bridge.

Yup, here is what was left of the KOA Store before they demolished it. We went down on 4 wheelers the day after Dennis and took some photos and moved out a lady that lived there.

Otherwise, Tates Hell has some camping with most sites having a "primative landing" made of shells and whatnot. Bring some DEET! Of course, most sites here aren't anywhere near flats. http://www.fl-dof.com/state_forests/tates_hell.html

Don't know if its open but Dog Island has the Pelican Inn. Its a primitive hotel.

I would be sure to check. When we were down there, we were told ALL Mangrove Islands were off limits to even landing and getting out and walking. There were also signs on some of them that said landing was prohibited.

Well, I'm glad I wasn't headed to Alligator Point. I could have sworn someone told me they stayed there last spring. Hell, I'm getting so old it could have been spring 5 years ago. OH well, it used to be a nize campground.

Good camping out at shired island by horseshoe beach. However, them boys can get a lil' rowdy down by Dixie county and I would just be aware. Here's a link to a map. The camping spots are sweet and you can pretty much roll outa bed and into the boat. No charge btw to camp or launch. If you check the land management areas there are tons of these little sites tucked away on the big bend coast with camping and launches. As far as the keys go there are state parks up and down with water front camping. We used to get a camping spot, go lauch whereever we could, and then just anchor the boat by the tent. Lots a folks did it with no problem. Try Long Key State Park.
