Aucilla 05/16

Fished the Jerrys redfish tournament as a fill in for an injured partner. Arrived at ramp just at safe light, first boat there kinda wondered did we pick the wrong area to fish? Plenty of water so we ran straight to an area where I had found a large school of fish a week before. Mullet had the water stood up a foot on this flat and 4 to 5 were in the air at one time, knew we had a chance the redfish school was with the mullet. Power poled down and hooked up on first cast, netted and released a 22". We had agreed not to keep any fish under 25 1/2". From the first cast at 7:12 am till 9:00 am we stay with the school and boat at least 40 redfish and keep a 27" and 26". Hard part was all the cookie cutter 26" to sort thru. A great two hours fishing for any day but an added bonus for tournament day. The fishing gods were defenitly smiling on us this morning. Bait of choice was whatever you threw. We caught em on spooks, redfins, jigs and plastic (no gulp)and wobble rite gold spoons.

Forgot to mention no other boats within 1 mile, knew you must not have been fishing. Need to give your protege Sims a few more lessons, its not always a low tide and they're not always tailing. By the way hows the gas leak problem going?

Winning was a just a bonus for a really fun day of fishing, would've paid for that trip. Course its always more satisfying to win if you're fishing, at least we would know we beat some competition.
