Crist vetoes pay cut for state workers earning more than $45,000
By Jim Ash • FLORIDA CAPITAL BUREAU CHIEF • May 27, 2009
"I believe now is not the time to reduce state employee pay, and so we have made that modification," he said.
Crist, who is running for the U.S. Senate, vetoed only two items in the $66.5 billion austerity budget that he just signed. Besides reversing the state worker pay cut, he also reversed a $6 million sweep of a trust fund that pays for processing concealed weapons permits, a move that was heavily lobbied by the National Rifle Association and Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson, who administers the program.
"I'm honored to be here on this occasion," said Senate Democratic Leader Al Lawson of Tallahassee, who lobbied against the pay cuts. "I've been working on this for days and days."

I'm under the "lard brick" status, but am glad he vetoed it.
Although, the "state workers pay" was not what was in his mind, it was the fact of gaining the support of state workers for the upcoming senate seat race

Let's see.... now all the State Employees who would have taken a 2% decrease and haven't had a salary increase in 3 years.....suddenly feel like they have been given something.... Now that's pretty slick!!
