Any info on Boat Wax

I am new to the fiberglass world and need to know if you guys/girls have any suggestions on a good wax to keep water stains off. Used "On/OFF" to remove the water stains, but he hull is a 97 and now needs something to keep stains from coming back. I am sure that West Marine carries a ton of stuff for this, but was wondering if I may be able to pick something up from Walmart. Any info would help.

I realy like McGuires Gold Class car wax. I wax my boat 3 or 4 times a year with it. When I first got the boat I used a 3M fiberglass wax because it had some oxidation/stain now I just maintain it with the Mcguires. My boat literally shines like a brand new one. Dave

Also I would recommend using a 1 part water, 1 part white vinegar mix to clean any water spots or old wax. This will strip anything off of the clearcoat. I learned this trick from driving black trucks. The guy at the detail shop said that is what they use when they say "acid treatment". But remember this strips off all of the wax. I do it on my truck and have for the past 5 years and it looks great!

Here's the link to my Boat Talk column on the subject of wax, oxidation and making your boat look like new again. FRP had a great suggestion also with the water, vinegar. It's best to avoid the harsh chemicals whenever possible to prolong the life of the gel coat.

Another thing--you get what you pay for. Buy cheap wax and you get cheap protection. Macquires is good stuff, but I've been using the 3M Scotchguard for the last couple years with excellent results. Really beads the water and makes clean-up so much easier. It's pricey normally, but Boater's World had it a deep discount if they're still open.

One of the best combinations I've used is Collinite Cleaner 920 for stains and light-med oxidation with a follow-up of Collinite 925 wax. The stuff isnt the cheapest but it’s without a doubt some of the best stuff I've ever used. I've cleaned and buffed every boat I've owned and the 920/925 combo seems to be the ticket. It works well with or without a buffer. The wax holds up very well and goes on easy and comes off easy. There are several vendors on-line that carry it.

I agree with Rogan. After watching him do his boat with da suff. I tried it out on the Tide-Dancer. I highly recommend it.

That and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee at the Waffle House.
