Rocking the Dock

Post by WaltDawg »

Fished the first annual Rock the Dock this past weekend with MIllertime, cygraphics, and skunky. It was a two day tournament, so I new that we were gonna have to pace ourselves. Went down after work Friday afternoon to the Captain's Meeting and saw alot of familiar faces. There was a good turnout and I could tell that the organizers put in a lot of time and hard work in order to accommodate all the anglers.

Saturday morning, we all launched at Oyster Bay after stopping by the Mashes Sands BP for a sausage biscuit or two and some much needed hydration. Millertime and Joe headed North and we headed East. The wind was blowing a little more than anticipated. I threw mostly topwater and Chris threw a DOA jerk bait. Chris gets us started with a keeper flounder but looses a larger one. We get a call from Millertime saying that Joe landed a 25 inch cobia on 14 lb mono. Not quite a keeper, but still a hell of a ride in a kayak.

The bite slowed down at slack tide so we decide to camp out on a oyster bar for a few. Image

I see a pontoon boat in the distant coming obnoxiously close to our fishing spot and I hear Uncle Dan holler "you boys want a beer", so we took him up on his offer.

We fished for a little while longer and caught reds, trout and flounder, but the midday sun got us off the water earlier than we expected.

Got up Sunday morning and met Aubill at Ocklocknee Bay. Image

None of us had really caught any good tournament fish, so we needed to fish pretty hard. The wind was laid down, so Bill and I both threw topwater plugs. He missed a couple nice trout and I got a 23 inch red. Near the end of the incoming, I land a 22 inch trout hoping that it might be big enough to place.

About an hour later, Chris knocks me off the board with a 23 incher. Image

The highlight of my tournament came on the paddle back to the landing. I fished for 3 hours looking for flounder loosing five jig heads on the oyster bars and I finally get a strike. The drag starts screaming, so I thought I had a spanish. About five minutes later, this 33 incher boils and continues to put up one hell of a fight. Image
Thanks Bill, for being there for the photo op.

All in all, it was a fun tourney. Congrats to Chris, Liam, Suber, Jason and everyone else who placed and got a money check. Hope to do it again next year.

Hey WaltDawg would you happen to know who won the flounder in the Rec. division or how I can find out? the reason I need to know is I was leading that one as of Saturday but couldn't make the weigh in Sunday.

I would look at the website and there should be a contact number or email address. I'm not sure if they are posting the results or not.
