FOLLOW - UP NFGFC MEETING THURSDAY

Post by Sir reel »

Not being a Club officer, I don't mean to walk on their transmission regarding the meeting tomorrow but didn't want to wait any longer to get this information out.

There have been a few posts recently regarding the wearing of PFD's, kill switches, etc. I wanted to make sure that all the members and other interested parties are aware of the following program. FWC has initiated a "Wear It Florida" program to promote the wearing of the suspender and side pack type of PFD. These types are much more comfortable than the "horse collar" varity but as most of you know, for the suspender and side packs to be considered "legal", they must be worn and not just on board. FWC is offering a $15 coupon towards the purchase of one of these types if you take a pledge (honor system) to wear it all the time while on the water. I have been in contact with FWC about this program and after communicating with our Club officals, I am pleased to report that Brian Rewhinkel will be with us at the Club meeting tomorrow to discuss and demonstrate the various types of PFD's associated with the program. He has indicated that they are still trying to put the finishing touches on this program and get it into the website http://www.WearITFlorida.com When ready, the website will provide an option for you to sign in, take the pledge and commit to wearing your PFD all the time. You would then receive a coupon for the purchase. There was some mention of possibly having coupons at the meeting (not a definate) and I assured Brian that since all our members are of a highly honorable and trustworthy caliber, FWC can rely on their pledge to follow the commitment. :-D

In addition, Brian will be sharing some information regarding FWC's "Diver Flag Awareness" program which begins June 27th. All you divers and scallopers may find that interesting as well. See you there.

Meeting... (gather 6:30 pm) 7 pm
Beef-O-Brady's Thomasville Rd (across from Miracle Five)

There may be other plans for speakers at the meeting so you Club officers feel free to modify, add to, or piggy back this post as you see fit.

We will also have a short talk about the Big Bend Saltwater Classic coming up. Plus I will have some 2008 shirts to give out to folks who helped test the registration system.

As a follow-up to last nights meeting, I received the following email from Brian this morning:
Bud,
Thanks again for inviting me to your meeting last night. You have a great group and I enjoyed meeting everyone.

As far as the pledge cards, I did get a few pledge cards filled out last night (I went out to my car after the meeting), you can forward names and addresses and I will either fill out the cards or I will mail you some blank pledge card.

Once again thanks.
Brian
For those of you who may want to fill out a pledge card and were not able to be at the meeting or missed the opportunity, here is Brian's email address:
