Favorite topwater for reds
It's the middle of the week and I am going stir crazy wanting to get out on the water. Lets start a discussion that everyone can get into.
I was wondering what you guys feel is your favorite topwater bait for reds. Your goto topwater when you see reds in the shallows. I have found the smaller super spook jrs to work best for me. Seems like they can get their lips around the smaller baits more consistently than the full size super spooks. How about color? I have had the most success with chart/white or a red/white.

The last red I caught, 28 1/2", hit a red/white Heddon Lucky 13.
I've caught a lot of reds on a chrome She-Dog. I've also caught a lot of reds on a yellow/black or white/black Devil's Horse.

She dog, top dog jr. almost any color
Re: Favorite topwater for reds
Whatever seems to irritate them the most on any given day....Skitterwalk, Top Dog Jr., Spook, Chug bug (although they often pull the hooks out), SheDog......I personally don't find color makes much
difference if any. In theory the darker the water the lure should be brighter but it seems more the noise and commotion brings them to the lure. My $0.02

I find that most any topwater plug, regardless of color, will be successful when fished correctly in the right water. It seems to me that the action of the plug and water disturbance is the attraction to the fish. I do find that hookups are more frequent when using the "Jr" sized plugs as opposed to the full size. Either way, topwater is much more fun to watch and feel the action IMO.
