St. Marks: Picture Intense

Post by FinsNGrins »

K. Mamatey invited me out on the boat with him late last week to get a chance at some cobia fishing. We left the house in the early AM to beat the crowds. We were geared up with everything from lightspinning to heavy action. Once on the water, I got a chance to net some big threadfins for the livewell and we set off. Checked the usual spots and much to our surprise they were home and hungry. They hit everything from bucktails with Power Eels, bucktails with a threadie, live thready, you name it. First fish to the boat was a solid 38" at 7:30, the bite continued with the strong tide throughout the morning. We played the game "keep 'em in the water boatside and try for a double", which paid off 3 times. K.Mamatey took big fish of the day with a whopper that maxed out his scale. All in all we hooked 9, landed 7(3 keepers), kept two. Its nice to have a game plan and have it pay off! Thanks K.M!!

On a lighter note: Fished with the g/f this morning out of the duck boat, she got into a nice red...

Great report, FinsNGrins.

Guessing you'll get a good many reads with such a strong report so wanted to quickly mention to you and any other folks targeting cobes that I'm tagging all shorts I catch and even bigger ones as long as I have a surplus of meat in the freezer. Just wanted to ask everyone to be on the lookout for the tags going forward. At least five swimming around tagged now but hope to have many more tagged by year end.

Congrats on the great trip out.
