Keaton Beach 6/2/09

Post by DixieReb »

Took the wife to Keaton Tuesday for a little fish'in. Put in at 9AM with tide rising, noted something busting the water off the end of the pier and threw a gulp into 'em. got 2 feisty blue runners about a pound each, forgot how hard they can pull on light tackle. Left them and went up to Yates Creek in 5 ft. Not much there, caught some bait and went out to 8 ft. Water darker and got a few bites but still not much. Kept going out deeper and found a few small trout and 2 good keepers to 17''. Then got a good shark for the cooler.High tide at 10:30, still not much to show and we moved around a lot. Moved to 12 ft., 11.5' BSB to show for it. Must have caught a boatload of ladyfish, some big ones, too. Couldn't stay out of them til we ran about 2 miles inland. Caught a big remora on my bait pole, that was a good pull. :o Finally at 3 PM we went back in front of Keaton and caught the biggest trout, a fat 19'' one. and a flounder on a live pinfish(never did that before, either). And another keeper shark. We were hot but having a ball, it was good to be catching something again. Water temp was 84.6 and we stayed hot unless a breeze kicked in or we were moving. Left at 4 pm, tide falling fast. Ended up with 4 trout to 19'', 2 sharks, a BSB,a flounder, a grass porgy(jolthead) and 2 big spots. Had fish for supper today, almost forgot how good they are fresh! :-D

we had the same luck yesterday outta econfina.. launched at 1:30 fished till 7:30.. crappy tide but wanted to get out...
got about 3 keeper trout, a shark and some BS... topwater got blow ups but no hook ups.
we were the only boat in site except a Ganoo wayyy out at the bird rack... we thought he was a crab trap buoy till we were 1/4 mile from him
