Garmin GPS question

I see on the site the public waypoints, I know these are mostly overfished but i want to load them on my GPS to use them as a reference without having to type each one in separately. I notice there are two file extensions...are they compatible with the Garmin GPS? If so, which one?

The gdb is the new Garmin format. The mps is the old format.

What GPS do you have? Does it take the Blue Chart Cards? If so I have a card that has all of the Charts from La. to Tampa including all public reefs. I'll cut you a deal on it.

I just got a 420s and the gdb and mps formats do not directly transfer to the device.
You have to get the Trip and Waypoint manager ($30), a blank SD card, and a SD card reader for your PC.
Insert the card in the device first and then turn it on. The device will format the SD card.
Then open the gdb or mps file in the Waypoint Manager (Mapsource).
Save the waypoints and then hit the Transfer link and Send To Device.
Mapsource will recognize the SD card and will have your model number as the title.
Hit the send button and the waypoints will be saved on the SD card.
Insert the SD card in the device and merge or replace the data.
Yea, it's a pain.
