Tournament Day 6-6-2009

Post by Tom Keels »

Same story as a bunch of folks. Second boat out of St. Marks. Ran west past Shell Point and started fishing in 2 feet. Fish were chewing early and we had 4 good tournament fish before 8 with 2 at 19.9 inches. Spent the rest of the day looking for a kicker. Hooked some sea monsters we never saw and got broken off several times. Caught some of the biggest bluefish I'ver ever caught. I had 3 or 4 good fish on for a good 10 seconds of drag pulling and then would pull off the very sharp owner 5/0 hook. I'm sure one of those was the fish we needed.

We stayed in the same area until about 10 am and decided to make a run back east and started catching fish almost immediately and upgraded 2 of our fish to a really nice tournament stringer.

We stayed in the area until 2:30 fishing very hard. I used every soft plastic I had in my bag. I started a new job last week and had no time to get to Cairo to replenish. Heath needs to start a delivery service. :)

Anyway we fished very hard until the last minute we could and pulled into the weigh in with 3 minutes to spare. Ended up with 7th place even without a kicker.

Great day on the water. Thanks to Casey and Pat for a smooth weigh in. Thanks to Junior for being a great emcee for the door prizes.
