Keaton beach 6/11-12/09

Post by Breambuster »

I took the bossman and his son to do some inshore fishing. The fishing was pretty slow but everyone had a good time. Its nice to see Calvin and Ross, my boss's son, working together to land some of the fish. I'll just let the pictures tell the story.

On Thursday, we were on the water from 11 to 5 pm and ended up with 6 trout. On Friday, we had 6 trout as well when we came back in at around 11 am. I got all the fish cleaned while our guest were getting ready for the long drive back to Athens, and sent them home with 2 one gallon bags full of trout fillets.

After they left, Calvin and I went back out and were onto fish in short order. We were one short of our limit and decided to quit at around 3 pm when the sun and heat became unbearable.

Most of the fish were caught in 4-5' water using pinfish and hard bait. The water temperature was at 83 when we started fishing at 7 am on Friday and went up to 87 when we quit at around 3 pm. I believe the water temperature is becoming a factor. If you go, its a good idea to have an early start to beat the heat.

Saw a couple of forum members on this trip. Got to meet WAM on the water - nice to meet you and am glad we're able to help you out. Also saw Redfin while cleaning fish on Thursday. You should have introduce yourself. May be you were too busy cleaning those nice mangrove snappers. While checking on the boat on Thursday evening, I ran into nice fellow who's also from TIfton fishing on the "Playin Hooky" and lurks on this forum from time to time. John, its nice to meet you.

Nice catch! It was slow fishing for me and Britt, but we still had a lot of fun being on the water. We just couldn't pin them down. We did manage to have enough fillet inventory for a couple of dinners after going offshore Friday afternoon. Seas were a bit rocky but we managed to hold on to bottom fish for a couple of hours. Congrats Calvin on that fine trout, "Great Job". I know dad has to be proud of you. I enjoyed meeting and talking to you all and maybe we'll see you all again soon.

Hi John, welcome to the forum. Saw Pat MacGriff report and its been a slow week inshore for everyone. I think you made the right call to run offshore. Send me a message the next time you're down in Keaton. My next trip would be on the 4th of July weekend.

Hi Peng! My next trip down to Keaton will be June 25th and 26th. July 4th I will be in St. Simons for the weekend. You all planning on scalloping this year?

Yes, the kids love scalloping - we'll probably be down every other weekend in July and August. We are planning go out on the opening weekend mostly to scallop but also to fish some. I need to be in the BigEasy this weekend but am thinking of making a trip next week to do a little scouting and also to leave the boat down there at the boat yard so that I dont have to do it when taking the family on the 4th. Hmmm.... perhaps we can meet up on the 25th or the 26th.

Boat yard, is there a place you can do that? I'm taking the family the week after the 4th to camp in Perry. It would be great to be able to get the boat there a few days early and then come get it a few days after. Any contact info for a place like that?

Thanks
