6/13 St Marks HHA and 6/14

Post by caseycook »

6/13 - St Marks
The Hands Helping Anglers event was a great success! We had 15 captains volunteer to take anglers fishing and were able to place 27 anglers and their helpers on boats. The following report is about three of those boats and a fish of a lifetime.

My dad and Randy, Suni and I, and Daniel and Trisha (Suni's wife) pretended we were from Georgia  for a day and did the buddy boat thing. My dad and Randy teamed up to take Joe fishing...Joe turned out to be a pro...

Daniel took Suni's wife fishing and they had an awesome day. About 10 a.m. Daniel slung out a CT with a New Penny Gulp under it. After three pops, the cork quickly went under and line started ripping off his reel. After about five minutes, he saw the huge fish he was fighting and knew that he needed to chase after it to prevent from being spooled. Problem was, his motor wouldn't start. Randy and my dad idled over to Daniel's boat and he and my dad traded places. Randy was able to chase the fish down and after a 45 minute fight, Daniel brought in his 48 lb cobia caught on 12 lb test and an old ambassadeur bass reel.

I took Suni out with the group and we had a great time. We caught a bunch of different species and laughed and bs'ed the whole day. After he saw Daniel catch the cobia, he gave me all kinds of crap because I couldn't put him on one. He had to settle for a real species...trout. 8)

But he did want his picture taken with the cobia so he could tell his buds he caught it...

I wanted to fish some new water and so Shaunna and I launched the boat and headed out at 6:30 this morning. Shaunna was armed with her favorite popping cork and me with my spook. We fished until 11 a.m. and called it a day.

When we've gone together, I've been handing off most of the fish I hook, but she caught this one all by herself...a big step. I told her the hand-off days were done. :-D

Special thanks to all the captains that helped out with the Hands Helping Anglers event. You guys did an awesome job and I've already gotten feedback from several of the anglers talking about how great a time they had.

Hey Casey sounds like yall had a great trip. Me and My buddy Marvin took Our angler out of Aucilla river. We headed out to try and catch some redfish. We tried hittting the banks with some gold spoons but had no luck. We then headed up a creek and anchored up and tried the live shrimp. We ended up landing 4 redfish from 16" to 23". Our angler landed his first ever 23"redfish. We then headed out trout fishing needless to say trout fishing for us was tough. We eneded up with only one keeper trout so about 1pm we headed back to the ramp with 2 nice redfish and one trout but all in all we had a great time.

I let her fish from the front...she likes to sling the ol' CT / jig combo sidearm and the last thing I want to do is take a 1/4oz jig head to the dome...this lets her keep the rod tip over the bow of the boat and, more importantly, away from me.

I plan on teaching her to run the trolling motor though so she can do all the real work while I get to fish uninterrupted. I'm just nice when I fish with you BB and make sacrifices for the betterment of the team by fishing in the front of the boat. :smt005 :smt005

I see you put some thought into this.

You should be the NFGFC MVP for all the sacrifices.
