New user in need of some advice

Post by mikev »

Good evening all,
A buddy just turned me on to this site, pretty nice!
I hope ya'll can help with a little info. I have a young (9 yrs) nephew visiting this weekend, and I'd like to take him fishing. I think bank fishing would be best, since I am unsure of how well he would tolerate a boat ride, seasickness, heat ect. I am thinking of 3 spots, St George bridge, east end of St. George, if I can still drive there, and
Bald Point, which is closer. This kid is from Colorado, and has never been fishing. I really don't care what he catches, as long as he gets something. ( I am trying for favorite uncle status) Thanks, mikev

Bald Point is closest.
The fishing pier at Mashes Sands might be a good place to wet a line.

Thanks Flanders, going to do my best to make sure the house ape has a good time. I started gathering up some gear, and I have to admit that I'm ashamed of myself. I just found 2 unused spinning outfits in the closet, as well as 2 reels still in the box. I haven't fished much in several years, but I still love clearance deals on tackle and gear!

Try along Alligator Point Road where the rocks are. Right in front of where the KOA used to be has produced some nice whiting, sail cats and sharks over the past few weekends. Not my favorite species to catch, but thats where I take my boys when they just want to have something pull the line tight and rip a little drag   A cup of scrimps and a small box of squid will entertain him for hours.

mike if you really want to give the kid a treat, bring him to Carrabelle Boat Club on Saturday afternoon at about 5 to watch some of the fish come in for the BBSC. He wont see anything like that in Colorado.

Call me in a few years and I'll gve you some pointers on how my favorite uncle came to be that.

Like Fish On said, take him to the weigh-in, he'll never forget it and his friends won't believe him.

That is a mighty fine idea! I'll just see how tired the little booger is and make the call then.

Bald Point at daylight this weekend should be good "with the wind and tide predictions" and it will keep you outta the worst of the heat also :-D I would use a top water to start with "top dog is my choice "and a Cajun thunder with a 1 1/2 foot drop on it with your favorite jig or Shrimp at the end  when you first get there, wade out so that you can throw right in front of the fishing dock and work the top water fast past the dock, Reds like it right there  once the tide gets to coming in good, walk towards the bridge and fan cast the mouth of the creek that is about 500 foot from the dock. Also work the top water lures ACROSS the top of any Oyster bars that you can reach :smt004 GOOD LUCK and tight lines
