big bait equals big fish

I was fishing yesterday and was steady catching your standard 13" to 17" trout. I caught one that was about 12", got it to the boat and while it was swimming boat side another trout that had to be three times it's size (it was HUGE) swam under my trout opened it's mouth and put at least half of the smaller fish in it's mouth. Needless to say I was . The big trout sat for about a second or two with the smaller fish in it's mouth then it opened up and let go of the smaller trout and swam off. My personal biggest trout is 28.5 and I know that this fish was bigger than that one, way bigger...

I've had that happen before once and I know the Bass Boys have a similar story where the big trout left two fang marks down the back of the little trout. I've thought about throwing big swimbaits to target the mucho grandes, but just enjoy working a topwater plug too much. Thanks for sharing.

That's awesome! I read a story once about a man who found a trout floating out on the flats with a 2 pound mullet lodged in its gills. I guess he had bitten off more than he could chew! Maybe throwin some of them big swim baits ain't such a bad idea.

I was having a great day until you reminded me of that But, yes I had one of the BIG one's on a 15 1/2 inch trout about 6ft from the boat all you could see was a inch of the tail sticking out of his mouth so I pulled him toward the net and he just spit'em up. Me and Onekeeper measured the 15 1/2 incher and said if he could make it through that and still be caught alive he needed another chance,,,Now I got to start the forgetting process all over again Thanks CC.

I fish with fellow boardmember Sharkman and he proves your point quite often. Just this last week we were fishing a birdrack out of Econfina and had small sharks hitting pinfish we were floating behind the boat. He caught a big bluefish and let it float for a while and in short order we had a 7'+ shark make mincemeat of the bluefish... unfortunately made mincemeat of his line too with a very brief fight (couple of seconds...).
