Keaton 6-26& 27

Post by Perch Jerker »

Got down and in the water by 3:00 Friday afternoon. The wind was blowing at a pretty good clip but helped keep it bearable. Managed 7 keepers, all on jigs except for a 22' fish caught on a 8" lizard fish. We were out there a pretty good piece, in 7 - 9' of water. Saturday things started out good with a fish on the first cast, Then things went dead for an hour or so. A rain cloud kicked up out from Spring Warrior and drifted SE. It spawned an impressive water spout that stayed together for 5 min. or so. We were probably 3 miles away and it was certainly an uneasy feeling. It all eventually went on shore. During the water spout excitement we caught 3 trout. We wound up with 9 before the wind blew us and everyone else off the water mid-afternoon. We also had several BSB and Spanish. Were greeted by 2 fwc boats as we enterd the canal. They measured our fish, checked our credentials and let us go. They were very polite and professional. About the time they finished with us, a boat came in hot and didn't come off plane till about the place the pier begins! There were 4 or 5 aboard and I could see several were holding cans. Of course, this caused a lot of excitement with the officers and they sprang into action. A guy told me later that they took the driver off in handcuffs. The officer did tell us that fishing had been extremely slow and that we had the best box of fish he'd seen all day. He probably says that to all the guys.

All in all I was pleased with our performance. The water is hot and we had to work hard for what we caught but it proves that even after 2 weeks of 100 degree weather, you can still get out and catch a mess of fish if you work hard enough.

I was in the neighborhood, may be a little sough and closer inshore, and got to watch the water sprout as well. It was cool to watch it that close and personal until the wind picked up and the water started white capping. :smt103 Glad yall find the trout as well.
