New to area...Where to fish?

Post by sdavis82 »

Hey, I'm hoping to get some advice from some locals. I just moved to the area a few months ago and just recently bought a Carolina Skiff JVX18CC hoping to get out and catch some reds, spanish mackeral, trout, etc. I put in over the weekend for the first time at St. Marks and went down around the lighthouse, and also over to the Ockolocknee Bay. I didn't know there'd be so many oyster bars. Anyways, I didn't get to do much serious fishing, just trying to get use to the area. But if anyone is up for offering suggestions on some good places to go off of St. Marks or the Bay, or anywhere else for that matter, I'd really appreciate it. Any must have bait or tackle that works best up here? Thanks in advance!

There are numerous bars around the mouth of the St. Marks and Ocklocknee. Run East from the light house and fish the creek mouths with Topwater first thing in the morning. YOu may want to Google earth the area as you will see that the further East you run, the more rocky it gets. Be very careful as you explore this area. Slow is the key until you get it all figured out. There are excellent areas East and West of the St. Marks River mouth, you just have to put in your time and you will find key spots. Good luck.
