FSU STUDENT NEW IN TOWN!
I am new in town and just wanted to to learn where to fish and what to use. I have a jon boat with a ten horse power outboard to get around and am just wondering what i should use up here so I can start filling the tackle box. I also want to get into catching crappie however i have no clue how to do it or where to go. Could anyone help me out!?!?!

WELCOM RADO7H, THERE IS GOOD SPEC. FISHIN OVER IN LAKE TALQUIN, JUST WEST OF TALLY ON RT. 20. THEY ARE A LITTLE ON THE OFF SIDE RIGHT NOW BUT WILL PICK UP ALONG IN OCT. I USE SMALL HALL JIGS, NO ALIBYS, AND SONIC PLUGS. YA HAVE TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE STANDING TIMBER TILL YOU KINDA KNOW WHERE THEY ARE. GET A MAP FROM THE FORUMS MAP PAGE, THIS WILL HELP YA OUT. YOU CAN ALSO GO DOWN TO THE ST. MARKS LIGHT HOUSE AND FISH FOR TROUT , REDS, BLUES, SPANISH AND MANY OTHER SPECIES OF SALTWATER FISH. I USE MAINLY TOP WATER LOUD PLUGS AND HAVE HAD GOOD SUCCESS. YOU CAN PUT IN DOWN AT THE LIGHTHOUSE AND GO EAST OR WEST ON THE FLATS, GO OUT TO ABOUT 2-3 FT. OF WATER AND JUST START DRIFTING, YOU WILL CATCH FISH.

HEY FSU STUDENT, IF YOU GO DOWN TO ST. MARKS BE SURE TO BACK YOUR KICKER DOWN IN A FRESH WATER POND OR LAKE AND RUN THE SALT WATER OUT OF YOUR ENGINE.

The best thing for you is to join the North Florida Gulf Fishing Club and learn everything you want to know in a short period of time.
Next meeting is August 6 at Beef O'Brady 1830 Thomasville rd. at 7 p.m.
We will take you under wing and let you know about everything in the North Florida Gulf from Keaton Beach to St. Joe Bay. 150 miles of North Florida coastline.
Many of our 200 members fish freshwater as well. They will be more than happy to tell you when and where on the crappie and other FW species.

ditto what he said except that just know that JT51 will forever claim any fish you catch as his if you fish any of those 200 miles of shoreline and will also drink any and all beers you happen to bring on a trip you invite him on. You have been forwarned

Welcome to the boards bud! If you ever have any shoal bass or questions about the South GA rivers, holler at me. If I can't help you, I'll point you in the right direction. You have a good little rig to do some exploring. You are less than an hour from the Flint River in Bainbridge and it is worth the drive!
