Friday 7/24 C-Belle

Post by Ranaman »

Wanted to get a good trip in with my friend Larry and his buddy Buster from St Mary’s, GA for quite some time and finally the ducks lined up and we all were able to get Friday off to head down to Lanark-C-Belle to get some Gulf salt on Busters new boat! He has only taken it out of St Mary’s and has never fished in the gulf area so we took him to our old haunts, all new for him.
Buster Drove over with his wife Thursday and I met him at Larry’s for the boat loading and a few beers. Headed back to the house to help Celeste and the kids get somewhat together for their departure Friday Evening with Larry’s and Buster’s wives.

Me and the boys left out Early Friday morning and cruised down to Crum’s for a bait fix and then on to the Lanark hacienda to unload some gear and rig up the boat properly for a little C-belle afternoon trip.
We dropped in to the River shortly thereafter and headed out to some deeper numbers after acquiring bait behind the island and at the buoys. Our first spot had a boat with a dive flag on it so we headed on out to spot two where we caught absolutely nada. I new this was a decent spot and had fish on the screen just could not get bit for whatever the reason and I was thinking I was in the wrong spot, but finally we got a grunt in the boat. Wow all that for a Grunt, headed out to another spot in the 70 ft range and still were having a time putting much in the boat finally things got going and some short grouper and grunts came over the gunnels. We started getting into some good sea bass as well so there was at least some meat on board, but the cooler lacked any real color; we did manage a vermillion and a Lane snapper. We bowed our heads to mother ocean and headed home to C-belle ramp. Once at the ramp I called in our shrimp order and at lease got us into some decent eats!! 30lbs of fresh caught shrimp!!

Friday night the crew all assembled and Sterling my oldest son asked if he could go with us Saturday, so , we headed back out after some much needed rest! We wanted make the ride to launch at Indian Pass, but once we got to Apalachicola we decided to launch there and make a little longer run to our spots.

To be continued in Saturday's post….
