St. Marks Fishing

Post by rob4auburn »

Hey all you St. Marks guru's . . . . I recently moved to Tallahassee and have only made one trip out St. Marks into the bay. Picked up mostly trash fish and a couple of nice Spanish. Tide was going out and we went a pretty good ways out past the shallow area on the east side of the channel.

I would appreciate some expert advice for time, place, and baits to target trout and reds this time of year. I am an inshore fisherman - I have a '05 17' Scout CC I recently purchased. Years ago I lived in Taylor County and did a lot of fishing out Keaton Baech. I would greatly appreciate any hints and tips for a good trip - hoping to go Saturday. My 13 year old would appreciate it too. I promise to post pic's and info on successful.

Thanks and Safe Fishing!

Fishing St. Marks is no different than Keaton other than here you run east and west vs. north and south. Same baits and areas apply. Look for patchy bottom. There are rocks starting about 3 miles east of the lighthouse. Plenty of creeks to fish for reds as well.

Tom is right. Same baits and gear you used there. Please be careful of the rocks!! Get a map and be aware when you start getting close to the rock garden. See this from just this past weekend http://www.bigbendfishing.net/phpBB3/vi ... =1&t=23059
The creeks can provide some good redfishing. I too am still trying to figure out the trout, but from what I am hearing the bite should pick up soon as the water temp comes down a few degrees.
Good luck and welcome to the Bay
