Well... after many delay's the boat got splashed this afternoon. Went down about 4:30 and took it out for a sea trial ran out through the pass. She purred like a kitten, GOD IT FELT GOOD TO BE OUT ON THE WATER. It was blowing very hard today, hopefully the wind will lay down tomorrow evening and I'll be able to get the wife and kids out on Wednesday. Taking a page from Tom's earlier post I have a 4 year old I want to have catch her first fish. Thought I would run to the first wreck about three miles south of the cut out of Carrabelle and try to turn them on to a little action.
When is the First Official BBF.Net Grouper Trip?
The way ya'll have taken me in and from the obvious wealth of knowledge on this board I definitely look forward to fishing with some of you. I was thinking of putting a trip together the first Sunday of April depending on the weather of course. I like to fish 4 people, so we'll have to come-up with a creative and unbiased way of deciding who goes, if there are more that express interest. Since I want the Grouper Master Tom to go, to ensure we actually catch some fish, that will leaves two spots.
Engines
I have twin 350 Crusaders with 250 gallons of fuel capacity at 2900 RPMS I average 18 knots and burn 18GPH. If my math is correct I have about 250 miles of range. I don't want to test the math though.
Just my 2 cents:
If your looking at inboards definitely get twins, they make backing into a slip a joy. If the pocketbook will allow it definitely get diesels. A buddy had the same setup as mine and converted to diesels he picked up 400 miles of range, 8 knots in speed as you can run them at a higher RPM for a longer period of time, and he burns about 8 GPH at 3500 RPM's instead of 18 GPH at 2900 on the gas. On top of all of that they will last about 5 times as long.
I just had my motors rebuilt 350 hrs ago and I want to get as much life out of them as possible but next time I'm going to convert them to diesels. My mechanic in Carrabelle is measuring mine for the Detroit’s, sweet motors, hopefully they will fit.

Good afternoon GeneO.
I did not mean to imply that you were putting any pressure on TK
It will be "self imposed" I'm sure. It's just that when your sort of lead'n the pack ... you feel the pressure. I know Tom will want the group to do well. Its a pretty safe bet that if fish can be caught he can certainly find the way better than the average.

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
