You may have read about it on the FS forum. But here goes a short version.
I took Jeff, a 21yr old FSU student from South Florida who loves to fish but has no boat here. I had heard that the AJ's were thick at the K tower. So off we went Saturday morning. Seas were smooth as glass.
We anchored up and werent catching anything at first. I went to try out the Chum Churn I got for my birthday back in Nov. it bounced out of my hand and down it went.
We re acnhored about 100 ft east of the K tower and saw all the AJ's and spade fish swarming just under us. Started out jigging with a greenish/yellow 4 oz diamond jig. It's one of those that looks like a fish with one treble hook on it. (Note to self: put a larger, stronger treble hook on it for big AJ's). We caught about 10 or 12, I lost count. We came home with 2 20"'ers.
Tried grouper fishing and didnt have much luck. Looked for some Spanish around Ochlockonee Shoals and didnt find any.
I should have gone back today for some more AJ action.
FF, we were probably out there at the same time---Maybe you were one of the boats my buddy talked too, had his wife and kid with him...I was just trying to catchem...I saw a few anchored down.---2 I think

Are the AJ's usually around K or is it just early in the spring? I like going for those every now and then when I need a good whoopin!
I thought they were mostly by Yamaha and Bryson.

Those AJ's are a real blast, especially for those who have never tangled with one of the hardest pulls in our waters. I couldn't help but notice that you said you took home a couple of 20""ers. If that's not a typo, becareful, as Greater Amberjack have to be 28" to the fork, 1 per person. If they were Lesser Amberjack, then they would've been legal. The regs on those are 5 fish per person measuring between 14" and 22". They are very difficult to tell them apart from the Greater AJ's, you have to count the number of spines on the dorsal fins. It has been my experience that most, if not all of the small AJ's you might catch in our area, are undersize Greater AJ's, not Lesser AJ's. I'm not passing judgment, just passing along info:)
