Little crabs for bait

Post by eric »

I was around keaton this past weekend and saw thousands of little crabs on the bank with one large claw and one little claw and they ran sidways. What are they called? Are they good bait for reds and trout?

Not to step on the convo... but my wife took the coolest picture of a fiddler with the most realistic looking "face" on its shell.

Some day I'm gonna find a way to post pics at this place. I have no scanner, etc.... blah, blah, blah.

This has been a public service announcement.

Fiddler Crabs are the bait of choice for Sheephead to me. Never fished with them for any other type of fish. They'll come to you better if you call them Jim, not Billy.
One thing, the largest Trout I caught last weekend, had two small crabs (not Fiddlers) in their bellies. Might be something to try.
