Alligator Point 9-6-09

Post by Atticus »

Put the boat in around 7:30. Put 4 fat trout in the boat before the tide bottomed out. My partner caught a nice 26" redfish on an Exude under a cork at dead low tide. After the tide started moving we got closer to the hill and boated 3 more upper slot reds. Not bad for a full moon, East wind holdiay weekend where you have to fish through the dead low tide at 9:30.

Had a big (4' across) spotted ray come out of the water and try to flop down on top of my Exude right next to the boat. That woke us all up. Saw several man sized spinners and numerous sea turtles out there. Floating grass was worse than normal and the water clarity was suspect but if you ran around you could find some decent looking water.

Sorry no pics. Working on getting a new digital camera.

Yep "spinner" what my buddy kept calling the 4'+ blacktip sharks we saw in three different spots. Also we saw more than one big gar even where the water tasted nice and salty. Wierd. On the other hand - I have seen an otter out on the flats before so who knows what is really wierd.

"The Hill" is redneck for land when you are on the water.

Spinners and blacktips do look a lot alike... That said I haven't seen any spinners up this way myself.

What can I say... after living up here 5 going on 6 years ya gotta learn these things. Took me a few times to put 2 & 2 together though. Being an east coast boy "The humps", " The Hill", etc had to do with underwater topography not land.

HEY MOOK, JUST PUT A RED HEADED AND WHITE BODY LUCKEY 13 AND CHUG IT REAL FAST AND YOU WILL FIND ALL THE SNOT CATS YOU CAN HANDLE, MIGHT PICK UP A RED OR TROUT WHILE CATCHING THE SNOT CAT.
