Myself and CSMarine took part in the NFGFC tournament this weekend...Had some good eats and fellowship Friday evening, we cooked some fish caught by team Keels and Smith.....Blasted off at 7:00, went to where we wanted to start and immediately, had a couple of 19's, 18's and a 20 in the box....We worked the area hard....I lost several hawgs, yes we saw them, them big boyz know where the last hook is :x ....In a nut shell, we took second place  , ended up with 2 over 20", 6 between 19"-20" and 2 between 17" -19" (CSMarines fish :smt042  )..CSMarine had the big fish of the day, he can elaborate on the size  ....Had a blast....Nice meeting everyone....Hope to do it again, soon..I

Nice going, guys. Were the trout close in or further out? We fished close in yesterday and only got 4 keepers.

Good job Guys... CS looks like Chalk is doing right well with his training! :D  That picture with the Diet Pepsi is pretty neat consider'n at least a couple of those "pigs" were never concerned about stick'n to their diet. :D
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".

We had to go south to get in DS :-D ...Caught in close..All fish were caught on two lures, CSM's red and gold one and my different gold and white one, did catch one dink on a Catch 2K Jr....Threw alot of different things, they wanted what we started with...matter of fact the last keeper I boated, I was throwing another similar lure, nothing, tied the "secret weapon" back on, first cast, boom, last fish....

I wasn't smiling cause I was thinking about them two that got away :x :hammer: :hammer: ...Dang Net Man   Just Kidiing CSMarine...I think CSM's saying was, "Them two are probably going to cost us."

Now if we want to talk smack we should have weighed a two man limit :smt045 :smt043 :smt023

Can't elaborate much on Chalks report, except to say I had a great time with a fine bunch of fellows with the NFGFC. We got beat out of 1st place by just a few ounces. Those two trout that Chalk lost at the boat would have beat the 23 inch we had easy. I won't say more on that subject.
We each had $5.00 lures cut off 3inches above the plug. Both times, we never felt or saw the hit. Line just went slack, and the lure was gone.
Needed a day like Saturday for a long time, thanks to a great fishing partner, and excellent blessings on the weather for a change.
Planning to be there again this weekend. 8)

Long story short....My pawinlaw and I won. We fished south of yates creek both Friday and Saturday and never got out of the fish. We found one area in 2-2.5 feet with stained water that held fish consistently. I followed Capt. McGriff's instructions to the letter and it obviously worked out.

We found that if we got out of the stained water and into clear, we only caught small fish. The exception being very early in the morning and when we went out to about 5 feet on low tide. Baits of choice for Friday were a electric chicken grub under a CT, and a red/white catch 2000. Baits for Saturday started with a black/gold redfin but switched to a chartruese Catch JR (after a spanish took my r/w one) and the same electric chicken grub both straight and uder a CT.

We caught 7 fish over 20 inches and 4 over 23. I turned loose a 24" fish both Friday and Saturday. Most of our fish were in the 18-20" range and we threw back several limits of 15-17" fish.

Also got two 26" reds on Saturday inside of our big fish spot. There was a school that came by about 150 fish strong.

All in all it was a great weekend for fishing, and that won't be the last time I fish Keaton.

A local guy at Keaton told me I should go up to Yates creek last weekend and I didn't do it. I thought my "hotspots" from last year would still work. They didn't. Wish I had tried now.

I made the same mistake and didn't folow good advice. We caught a decent limit of fish on Saturday but did not get into the bigguns like Tom and others did. :hammer:
