wakulla beach 9/28/09

Post by bigirishllp »

fished at the boat ramp for about 45 min after seeing a customer down by the coast. mullet are getting thick. broke off 3 nice reds (lower end of slot) on clousers (wht chatreuse). Only had my 4wt with me, waiting on a replacement on my 6wt from Albright. Didn't want to break the 4wt so was using 6x hence the break offs, or if you prefer long distance releases. I quit after the third break off and a 6ft gator got a little too friendly.

stopped at the bridge at 98 for a fw wash down for the gear and me. Saw pinfish and sheepshead on the ramp and under the bridge. Talked to Robbie (TNT) a bit and he said they get tarpon, and even amberjacks that far up on a flood tide.

looking forward to cooler temps and fish really turning on.

 Nice trip. Too bad the reds broke off, I hate to lose a good red but it happens. You hung the reds off a boat ramp?

Wakulla beach was all packed sand the last time I was there.

boat ramp is a generous term, like sir reel said, its a sandy spot in the marsh grass where you can launch a real small skiff or john boat, canoe, kayak etc. the tide was up and the mullet were getting pushed up against the grass (spartina?) on shore. normally I fish the point where all the oyster bars are, but mullet were getting popped right by the beach.
