NFGFC October Econfina Tournament Results - 10/3/09
We had a great turnout for our October tournament - 19 boats showed up at the Econfina State Park boat ramp ready to fish. There were several nice stringers weighed by NFGFC members and some great stories told at the weigh-in.
The team of Tommy Thompson and Huey Collins picked up their second victory of the year at the NFGFC October Tournament. Reelbad and NeverTooLate had a great day on the water as they weighed in 5 trout at 12.45 lbs and won $201 for their efforts. Congrats guys!
2nd place was awarded to the team of Casey Cook and Pat "Snatch-N-Reel" Irwin. Their five fish weighed in at 12.25 lbs and won them $121. Casey also won the big trout pot with his 4.56 lb, 26" trout which won him an additional $175.
3rd place was won by the team of Ashley "Warrior" Mock, Junior Dice and Matt Howell. The Perry boys weighed in five trout tipping the scales to 10.41 lbs which won them $80.
The Custom Detailing 2nd place big trout went to Huey Collins. Huey's 4.22 lb trout won him $25 courtesy of Tom Wheeler and Custom Detailing.
The big redfish was caught by Steve Stinson. Steve’s red was a shade under 27” and weighed 7.02 lbs. Congrats to Team Stinson for taking home $260 for winning the big redfish pot.
The Kevin's big flounder pot was won by Matthew Jacobs, Robbie Bearden and Justin Helms who caught a 1.76 lb flounder which won them a $50 Kevin's gift certificate. Congrats guys!
The Badcock and More Mystery was won by the team of Rick Bushatz and Brad Castleberry. These two guys took home $400 as they weighed a healthy 2.91 lb bluefish to take the crown by 6/100 of a pound.
The Econfina ramp tournament was a success - I hope everyone can join us for our final tournament of the year on November 7, 2009 at Jerry's Bait and Tackle. More details will follow soon...

Thanks to CC and Pat for a well run tournament, thanks to my partner for another great day on the water. The weather was great and a good time was had by everyone. The only bad thing to happen to us was that we threw back the winning mystery fish
, a very large approx. four pound blue. Next time we will be sure and check to see what the mystery fish is. We were so intent on getting a limit of trout that we did not even think about it. See yall at the next tournament.

Sure was great having all you ladies and guys visit our little piece of heaven at Econfina River!
I had the pleasure of fishing with Sir Reel and we really had a fun day beginning with great low wind and plenty of water for
some close in topwater action and then we moved out and continued catching fish until about 11:30 when things slowed for us.
We released a nice keeper red and numerous legal trout trying to best out weighin fish. We lost a large bluefish that cut the 25# leader easily
and also lost a very large trout first thing on topwater that buried in some grass and separated. I'll defer to Sir Reel to relate the
story of the redfish that DID NOT get away (due to his excellent boat handling and netting skills) but had to be released. It was the largest
red I've ever caught for sure! What an unbelievable fish...took a 3" gulp under a CT on a very light rig and proceeded to provide us with
some serious fun!
Again, great having everyone visit Anky and do come again!
Some pics....feel free to download any you wish from this album.

Re: NFGFC October Econfina Tournament Results - 10/3/09
Here’s a brief follow-up to RHTFISH’s account of Saturday’s action. It was sure nuff a beautiful day on the water. Ross and I had planned on getting together last year for an Econfina Tournament but it was cancelled by a named storm coming through. We started planning on fishing together this year in March for the October event and sure were glad when the event remained as originally scheduled. I can’t say for sure but I don’t believe there were any serious issues with navigation. Mr. RHT is an absolute pleasure to fish with. He’s real good with a skitterwalk as well!!
He is a genuine gentleman and I’m glad I was able to provide some support in chas’n down the outlaw red. Wouldn’t you know that monster hit a CT that was on the end of the lightest spinning outfit in the boat! Ross wasn’t able to even begin to turn him so it was obvious that we would need to break him off or chase him one or the other. So we ended up chasing him like a tarpon. A couple of times he would turn and go back under the boat and we were sure he’d get the line in the prop and cut off but he didn’t. We had him close to the boat on 2 or 3 occasions but he just wasn’t tired enough to get him to the net. Ross did a great job of handling him on the light tackle but at one point he shouted to me…”HEY BUD, SHOULD I TIGHTEN THE DRAG JUST A LITTLE??” I told him no, that we would eventually get him wore down. We finally did get him in the boat and even though he didn’t have any horns…he defiantly qualified as a “bull” in our book. We got as good a measurement as we could (38 inches conservatively) and released him unharmed. As far as the trout fish’n we did very well except we could never find the kicker over 20 inches that we needed to bump us up in the standings. We had 9 keepers and threw back another limit of 16 ½ inchers trying to up grade our catch. It was a great day on the water and congratulations to the money winners. If you every have the chance to fish with Ross, don’t pass it up. He’s a pleasure to be with. Hope to make more trips with him. Here are a couple of pictures….
