My new (old) boat
A year or so ago I posted my "new" boat. The world's ugliest 1959 Herters Quebec. Wevens corectly guessed that I had bought it in Crawfordville for the princely sum of about $200.00 bucks. After a years work which included all new wood on the inside, many hours refiberglassing both the bottom and transom, new paint etc., etc. It is now ready for it's debut. The motor chosen is a very nice 1958 Johnson 18 HP. Scrounged this one from a really nice gentleman in Tampa. The trailer it came on is no more. Too much rust and too many years. The new trailer is one I have rebuilt. If any of you guys follow the Duckworks magazine website there was an article about the trailer rebuild a month or so ago. The last half of the article will be published before Christmas. Wish I had better photos however work keep getting in the way. The Johnson pushes her about 22 mph. She takes anything the bay has thrown at us with grace. The bare hull weighs 225 pounds, the motor 77 pounds. Even with fuel, battery, etc she is very lightweight. Can launch her almost on wet grass. A blessing around Eastpoint. Have been kinda looking for a pristine 1958 Johnson 35 HP. Not too many around.
If you see us around Eastpoint/Carrebelle, say "Hello".

Very nice! Wish I had the time or dedication to do a project like that.

Wow...what a job! One thing for sure, I bet there aren't many Herter's boats left around!
I remember when they sold everything....still get out a catalog once in a while and just look through it and read some of the special sections.

Very cool. Did you happen to keep track of your man-hours on this project?
You'd appreciate the Antique Boat Show that's held in Apalachicola every year--November, I believe. In fact, your "new" ride would fit right in as a showcase display. Contact the Chamber of Commerce down there for more details, but your Herter is definitely worthy!
