Jacksonville partyboat 10/11/09
Calvin and I along with Dave (ddb) went out on the Majesty partyboat out of Jacksonville for a little bottom fishing. You know its going to be a good day when you have a bucket of pinfish before we head out.
Calvin even managed to catch a flounder while I was catching bait.
Our lucky streak continues when Calvin first drop resulted in a keeper snapper.
Soon after, it was Dave's turn to hook up.
Ended up being a nice snapper. He later caught another snapper about the same size to fill his limit.
Calvin then caught his biggest snapper without the help from anyone. During the fight, in more than once occasion I thought that Shimano Travella rod was gonna break from completely double over.
By around noon, I had put 2 grouper and a snapper on our stringer. Since Calvin has already limited out on snapper, he send down a little pinfish intended for grouper. Soon after that, I heard the grunting sound, followed by "help me"....."help me".....
Not the grouper he was looking for but turned out to be his first keeper AJ.
On our last stop, Dave, having already caught a couple of barjacks, was feeling the need for more punishment. He sent down a 12'' rainbow runner I caught on the sabikki and was instantly connect to you know what. Didnt want to say how long it took him to get the reef donkey in, but lets just say that everyone was getting tired of watching him. Even the deckhand got bored.
Finally, within gaff range
After that donkey, Dave was done for the day.
Calvin and Dave limited out on Snapper and AJ while I ended up with 2 grouper, 2 mangos, an AJ and only one snapper. We also have about half dozen of beeliners and a couple of seabass. Most fish were caught with either live pinfish or frozen cigar minnows. Ended up giving away the AJs to the folks fishing next to us. Here's a shot of the stern fish box. I believe the box up front was about the same.

Sounds like a good day but I have a question. I thought Red Snapper season was closed?

Good job there to the breambuster party! Don't seem many Grouper in the picture...were they scarce?

Only in the Gulf, not the Atlantic, he was out of Jacksonville.konrad wrote:Sounds like a good day but I have a question. I thought Red Snapper season was closed?
However, they have to be a minimum of 20" in the Atlantic instead of 16".

The snapper season is open in the Atlantic. You're allowed to harvest 2 fish and they have to be over 20''
Unlike the gulf, the grouper fishery is not as strong as in the gulf, and most are gag with very few reds. In fact, its been a long time since I caught 2 grouper on the same trip in the Atlantic side. But we were in 100' water about 30 miles out, and there're some big boys out there.
