October 17 Red Trout Tournament

Post by Jumptrout51 »

Woke up at 1 a.m. Left the house at 4 a.m. heading to Rockys Store in Perry to meet Junior and Ashley.
Trouttrent calls on the way down and says stop at Jerrys Bait and say hi to him,CaseyCook and Snatch and Reel.
They are heading to Fenholloway also. We caravan out of Jerrys and head down Hiway 98. They sure do drive slow. I was half way through my Rockys sausage biscuit when they got there.
By now it is 5:45 a.m. You can't see to run until 7 a.m. Nevertheless they head to the ramp.
Ashley,Junior and I wait until 7 a.m. to launch and run to our first hole Ashley had been pre-fishing last week. He had found a big school of 26-29 inch trout hanging around it.
The structure runs East and West. The wind was 25 plus from North to South. After the first pass on the hole the trolling motor takes a dump. That left us fishing with the wind the rest of the day.
Because of this Ashley took us to another hole that could be fished North to South. It had a good stock of top slot reds swimming around the boat very quickly and not interested in our bait. The trout were more cooperative. Ashley boxed several nice trout on this hole. The wind laid down to about 20 mph so we went back to the first hole to try again. Still no luck.
We moved a couple more times finally picking up a 22 inch red.
Later in the day the wind picked up and started gusting. By then it was time to load up and go to Carrabelle.
We did not fair well at all except for a 3rd place Big Trout check on Ashleys fish.
Days like yesterday make you appreciate the nicer days even more.
I will fish this tournament again next year.
Congratulations to everyone who braved this weather to fish, especially the guys that placed in the money. It was a tough day for sure.
WHOSE FISH IS IT?
