crabs and tuna

Post by SHOWBOAT »

Well, the Xpress has been garage kept the past couple weekends, so I'm not sure this report should go in the in-shore category. Nonetheless, I have made it to the water a couple times over the past couple weekends and thought I would share.

The weekend before last Matt and I only had a little bit of time as I was destined for Logan Intl later in the day. We made a quick run in search of crabs and found several nice SC claws in a short period of time. These were not stolen from traps, harmed or illegally taken; but as has been stated before, the methodology is subject to a strict confidentiality agreement. 8)

I was stuck in Boston through the middle of last week, but got back late Wednesday. Friday night found me in Pensicola checking out my buddy's new 31 ProSport CC and it is freaking awesome (pics still on the camera-but forthcoming). It does require a lot of effort; filling the 300 gallon tank (CCs are only good for a $125/fill-up), 400lbs of ice and the fact the radar has to be removed before trailing as we are bound to hit a couple trees or power lines each trip, but well worth it in the end. We got the rig ready, in the water and waited on the last of the crew to arrive. The plan was to head 80 miles out the pass to the LA oil rigs in search of the big yellow-fins that we've been told are going off. We left port about 2:00 Sunday morning and made it 20 miles before turning around in the 4-6' seas. Even in those conditions I was able to fall softly asleep in the cabin, others were not as lucky. We had a round of drinks back at the dock, took a nap, and tried again around at 8 to find that conditions had not changed. Next effort is scheduled for the weekend after this weather permiting, so hopefully some tuna pics forthcoming.

I really need to get back out the flats, but I can't say life is short on excitement. Congrats to all the recent tourney winners, seems like the fall bite is hot. See you on the water soon.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

Bud, you would not have wanted to put forth the effort I did. We arrived home Sat. to find a "cooler" sitting by the front door. After Ms. TC prepared the contents of the "cooler" we consumed said contents. With a stomach full of crab claws, I had to put forth the effort to return said "cooler" to it's rightful owner. It was a lot of trouble. :-D
